May Question Post

Um, I'm so amazing that I uh, totally flaked on an April question post. Wow. I've really just not been batting 1000 lately. I apologize that the comm has had to suffer along with me while I go through a bunch of stress, my life's a little nuts right now. Thanks everybody for being such good sports through it all!

Anyway, so the monthly question for May will be For you, what is the line or defining characteristic(s) between a Hobby and a Passion?

This one's easy for me. A hobby is something I can walk away from for weeks or months (or years) and come back to later without any problems or "itchiness". A passion is something I can't walk away from for more than a day or two without feeling like something's wrong.

I think for me, they are intertwined in some ways, but there is a difference. You can have a passion FOR a certain hobby, but you can't treat your passion AS a hobby, if that makes sense. Like, even if you're only able to indulge it in your spare time, you can't stay away from your passion. It's part of you, and never goes away, and you have to fulfill it, or you are unsatisfied. But a hobby, you can love and indulge, and it's got its place. It's still a part of you but if you have to stop for a while, it's not urgent. You can come back to it later.

You LOVE your hobby but you NEED your passion, I guess.

A hobby is something you do in your spare time. A passion is something you make time for, save money for, spend money on, something that invades your life.
