Hi there
This is the first time I post here, so I hope I'm tagging this correctly.
I often cook this dish when I have guests over for dinner and receive a lot of praise for it. There hasn't been a single time when I haven't been asked for the recipe, so this one is a crowd pleaser! :D

Date: 2013-11-14 09:07 pm (UTC)I'm so happy that you saw and liked the look of my recipe, even though your better half can't eat it. In answer to your musings about non dairy sour cream I can tell you that the brand "Tofutti" is quite popular with vegans because of their dairy free product line. Here is a link to their website in case you are interested:

Thanks so much for replying to my post. Hearing back from someone made my day, since I'm new around here and I'm trying to make friends. :)

Date: 2013-11-14 10:47 pm (UTC)In answer to your question this serves between 6-10 people, depending on their appetite. It's usually enough when I cook it for 'girl-only nights', but as soon as there are men in the party I have to double the amount of ingredients.
Do you mind if I friend you? I'm new around here and don't know anyone yet...

Date: 2013-11-14 11:28 pm (UTC)I'll go right ahead and friend you, then, and I'll check out these two communities as well. I've been trying to find groups to exchange recipes with for a while, but haven't managed to find anything other than a few food bloggers who just post their own stuff for others to use, there's just no opportunity to have a real conversation there, so... I'm hoping to be more lucky here! :)

Date: 2013-11-14 11:57 pm (UTC)Things are pretty stressful for me and I haven't been able to devote as much time as I'd originally hoped to making lots of posts to get things started at being active either, so that hasn't helped as far as getting more members/more participation.
Good luck finding a place that has lots of chat about food and cooking! If you find a good one feel free to tell us about it over here!

Date: 2013-11-15 02:03 pm (UTC)I went to culinary school for 2 years and I've always liked to cook and feel like I'm pretty good at it (even before the culinary school).

Date: 2013-11-15 03:58 pm (UTC)I promise not to flood you guys with all my recipes at once, just one or two, if anyone shows interest in this topic.
I'll make sure to leave either a note or a link around here if I find something interesting. Would you guys accept a link to a cooking community that I just joined over at LJ? I don't want to post that and ruffle people's feathers, since that is a different journal altogether, so I thought I'd ask first.
I hope things calm down for you soon and you get the time to get things rolling in the community, it looks like a wonderful idea. :)
Thanks so much for showing interest in my post. Would you mind it terribly if I friended you? I'm new around here and I'm trying to make new friends...
Cheers! :)

Date: 2013-11-15 04:03 pm (UTC)Oh! I'd have loved to go to culinary school. I cook a lot and I'm pretty enthusiastic about it but I can't chop an onion with the same flair that people who've gone through training so often show... it makes me madly jealous every time! ;)
Do you have any interesting recipes for all of us to try? I'd love to get a recipe exchange going around here for all the folks out there who might be interested in cooking.
Also would you mind it terribly if I friended you? I just joined DW and I'm trying to make new friends...

Date: 2013-11-15 04:40 pm (UTC)What I do is, I have a bunch of staple recipes I'm pretty good at and can just whip up, and if I'm looking for something I've never made I either look up Alton Brown to see if he's made it or I go to pinterest and look at the most popular recipes for whatever I'm looking for.
Don't worry about chopping onions, I still suck at it. In fact I do a lot of "chopping" in the food processor, especially if I'm making a lot.

Date: 2013-11-15 07:44 pm (UTC)I'm fine with making friendships that aren't based only around cooking, so I think I'll friend you anyway. :)
I am also a mother of two (11 and 10 years old respectively) so I'm pretty sure that we can exchange motherhood woes, while bragging -or complaining, depending on the day- about our better halves :)
